"Faith" --Songs and Scriptures

It's been a busy year, and this semester, "busy" doesn't begin to cover it, but I have made it a point to do something to spend time with God every day. Going through a relatively minor but still very painful and limiting injury (now make that two) has added to the stress but also added to the strength of my faith. That's usually the plan. Over the past few days I have been looking at a relatively new song by Jordan Feliz called "Faith," and it came to me as encouragement to not lose hope, keep on going, take care of myself, prepare for good things ahead. I may be down, but I am not out. God has brought me through a lot of unlikely circumstances before, He can and will do it again. My job is to believe in Him and do the little things that can help.

There is no ocean that can't be parted
There is no mountain that can't be moved

I know there's help for the heavy-hearted

The weak will find their strength renewed

You just gotta have faith

It's light for the shadows

For all your tomorrows

It's knowing He's there through the sun and the rain

It's when you believe it

Before you can see it

And you can walk on, ‘cause He's making a way

Just gotta have some faith, faith

Searching for purpose in all the waiting

Praying through so many silent hours

Finding a breath when you feel like fading

Learning to love where you are right now (where He's got you now)

You just gotta have faith

Remember your Rescue is standing beside you

I have to remember that there is nothing I can't get through; God will always make a way. When my heart is weighed down by all the negativity and problems of the world and anxieties of my life, He lifts me up. When I feel weak and have nothing left to give, He gives me strength and energy. He is the light that shines in the dark situations, the one who holds my future so I don't have to fear. He has given me good times as well as comfort in my bad times. I have to believe in His power and His plan before it comes. That's part of the journey. I can always find reasons to keep going. When I feel stuck, waiting for something better, I can pause in patience knowing there is a purpose. Prayers may seem unanswered, but it is just not time yet or not what I expected. Know He is hearing, and He is acting. Take time to breathe and take care of myself when I feel like things are crumbling. Find joy in the journey whether it is rough or smooth--it is all great in God's plan. Remember that God is right here with me through it all and is working everything out for my good. Walk by faith.

"God's Not Done" --Songs and Scriptures Series

There were a lot of times that I felt like I was just in the middle of a big mess, usually one of my own making. I've become a pretty pessimistic person. Things just kept going wrong in seemingly every way. I don't want to try a lot of times because I feel like it is pointless.
Why plan if nothing will work out? Why invest in something that will be over soon? What if I run more and get hurt again? Why try to change something if it may not make a difference?
I struggle with that in this difficult world. It seems so far gone, only worse with how fast time passes and how much life I've already lived, but I have to remember that there is still so much life ahead of me. It's an even better reason why I can start acting in faith more now. There are a lot of things that I don't notice until I'm lost and hurting. I appreciate everything so much more then. I see how life could be when I'm not taking advantage of it. I see God's work in ways I have overlooked before. I get stronger in my weaknesses. It forces me to make changes, trust more, challenge myself, my doubts, and my fears. Uncertainty makes me trust in God more fully, pain makes me persevere, weakness humbles me and makes me work harder to overcome them and get better. Through recent injury, I now have a lot more balance in my legs, awareness of issues and how to work on them, know where I'm weak and need to take better care of myself. I've been through such lows that God has brought me out of, it gives me hope. I can find joy in sorrows. I know that all these small things are part of my whole life's plan. When I don't know, He does. There is more to life than now. I will always have things to work toward. College is an amazing time, but it is only one section of time. I can't be obsessed with it or depressed with its end, but rejoice in knowing that there is also a huge future. Though I fear the unknown of where I may be in a couple years, I have hope in His plan.

God's Not Done
by Tauren Wells

Standing in your ruins, feels a lot like the end
So used to losing, you're afraid to try again
Right now all you see are ashes
Where there was a flame
The truth is that you're not forgotten
Cause grace knows your name
...There's a light you didn't notice til you're standing in the dark
And there's a strength that's growing
Inside your shattered heart
...He's got a plan, this is part of it
He's gonna finish what He started
God's not done writing your story
...God's not done with you
Even with your broken heart and your wounds and your scars
Even when you're lost and it's hard and you're falling apart
It's not over; it's only begun
So don't hide, don't run
Cause God's not done with you

"Do it Again" --Songs and Scriptures Series

--from my journal:
I thought surely by now I wouldn't be dealing with basically the same or related injuries from February, wouldn't be staying up so late, not getting enough or the right things to drink or eat, not moving past planning projects to actually doing them, etc, but I still have the same struggles. But every time God has never failed to bring me through the deepest pits. I keep waiting for my body to heal, but I know the main issues are in His hands. He's already won my salvation and eternity and planned out my life. Though there are many dark times, there is always a new morning and sunshine to look ahead to. God's word will stick to its promises. There will always be things I can sing about. He is always enough. I do not need health, money, school, sport, friends, family, anything. All I need is God's love. His promises to always be with me, always love me and care for me, provide, protect, give a hope and a future, save me a place in heaven, and more are still there and always will be. He is my confidence when the rest of the world fails (well, before the world fails!). He has never failed me. I've seen Him do things in my life that could not even be possible any other way. He's done it once and even again already. I can have full faith that He can work miracles again.

Walking around these walls
I thought by now they’d fall
But You have never failed me yet
Waiting for change to come
Knowing the battle’s won
For You have never failed me yet
…I know the night won’t last
Your word will come to pass
My heart will sing your praise again
Jesus You’re still enough
Keep me within Your love
My heart will sing Your praise again
…I’ve seen You move
You move the mountains
And I believe I’ll see You do it again
You made a way
When there was no way
And I believe I’ll see You do it again
Your promise still stands
Great is Your faithfulness, Your faithfulness
I’m still in Your hands
This is my confidence, You never fail
…This is my confidence, You’ve never failed me yet

"More Than Anything" --Songs and Scripture Series

I’m not going to lie, this song is kind of depressing, BUT it is also full of hope. While it can be scary to think that our negative situations may not change, it is encouraging to know that the deep-down things that truly matter are already taken care of. It is a tough concept to grasp, but it can help calm a lot of fears in the unknown. (Fear of the unknown is one of my biggest challenges.)

I know if you wanted to You could wave Your hand
Spare me this heartache and change Your plan
I know any second You could take my pain away
But even if You don’t, I pray
…You know more than anyone that my flesh is weak
And You know I’d give anything for a remedy
I’ll ask a thousand more times to set me free today
But even if You don’t, I pray
…When I’m desperate and my heart’s overcome
All that I need, You’ve already done
…Help me want the Healer more than the healing
Help me want the Savior more than the saving
Help me want the Giver more than the giving
Oh, help me want You Jesus, more than anything

Over the years, this idea has come up in my life through various situations, most profoundly when I’ve had to remind myself that I will be just fine if I can never run again. Being honest, that is also one of the scariest things I’ve had to tell myself. It’s been basically my life for so long, but I know that sometimes that is how God works. His plans are not always what I expect or hope.

Balance. What a concept.

Hope and reality. Desire and contentment. Perseverance and acceptance. Work and patience. Just to name a few.

It is easy to begin to lose hope when things go downhill, especially when multiple things start to snowball. Even with a strong faith, the hard love facts of this faith can be depressing. “God might take away my greatest treasures? Why would He do such a thing? If He loves me, He will keep me happy; He will heal me. Life will be good. What kind of a God makes bad things happen?” These are all questions that people both new and mature in their faith may ask in times of trial, and it’s real. Why would God take away what we love? Because He wants us to love Him more. He has a greater plan to use us beyond what we are comfortable with.

I get stressed when I think that my life may never be the same in a variety of circumstances. For example, with injury, I can cling to the hope that He has the power to heal anything beyond what seems humanly possible, but I also have to come to terms that He may not. He had the power to take Jesus down from that cross and save His own Son from death, but He didn’t. Why should I, a sinner, expect anything better than Jesus, His perfect Son? He has a plan for our pain. Just as Jesus rose again to save the world, there is a greater purpose beyond the pain I go through.

While I can’t ignore the fact that things may not get better, I can’t lose hope in the fact that they can. And through it all, I have Jesus, and that’s all that matters. I have all I need because my eternity is secure in heaven.

Through my trials of life, I have grown closer to God and more satisfied with my life than I ever could have if things always went smoothly. I didn’t get all the opportunities that I had thought of or hoped for, but I got some that changed my perspective and made an impact on others’ lives in ways that would not have happened if things went my way.
