Believe!

Believe!!! (From Strava, 7/2/19)

Photo
Out on the water is a great place to think, pray, plan (I have mixed emotions with this word), and get some inspiration from peaceful time away from everything else. Today I was really thinking about my devotion from yesterday. It can be applied to life and sports. You hear all the time that you have to "believe in the program." If you don't have faith in your training, you won't fully do it, and it won't work. It is psychological, too. The same goes for your faith and any other challenges. If you don't believe that there is a solution, that God is working something good, that He will reward faith, then you won't get the benefit. If you think you might feel better if you drink water instead of soda, but you also doubt that it will make a difference so you keep drinking mostly soda, that 'think' will not make change. You have to 'believe' and DO. God doesn't say if you think you will be saved. He says if you BELIEVE you will be saved. For me in this current predicament, I think I can come back stronger and motivated if I let myself rest and heal more fully than before. But sometimes when I just think and still hold onto my doubts, I don't allow change to happen. I tell myself, "Well, I might heal faster, but I might not, and then I would just be really out of shape, so I need to push myself super hard cross training, just in case." But now I am fighting back with telling myself to relax. See what happens. "If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always gotten." I have to do things differently if I want different results. I have been through so much, and the only thing that brought me out stronger than I've ever been was giving up my faith in myself, accepting my failures, and totally trusting God to take care of my body and life. And He did. He always will. "Believe that He exists and rewards those who earnestly seek Him." Hebrews 11:6
So this is me, challenging myself in a rather ironic way. The challenge to be confident in uncertainty of my circumstances and the certainty of God's plans.

Sliding Socks

9:04 AM on Monday, May 21, 2018

I would rather it be my socks sliding than rocks, but it was still a little annoying. With around 4 miles left to go, one of my socks totally fell off the back of my foot, and was only around my arch. The next one wasn't far behind. I was very thankful to be able to go to the park today because I was so tired and really not feeling a neighborhood run. I saw some little turtles, too! Praise the Lord for a day off! I really enjoyed it! Mom was gone most of the morning, so I had a little time to myself before she was back. After some time out in the sun and Bible study, I took a shower, deep conditioned, and did a face mask. Then I took a nap! It was not as long as I would've liked, but I needed to eat. But a quick yet quality nap is better than a lengthy yet cruddy one! I got to go back outside later, too. The sun took breaks about the same time I did.
I love to match the comics with my life, if you haven't noticed. Mutts often features my posts on their Instagram story! Those are flowers that Mom got from a student at her school. My post-run breakfasts are often random things so that they can be quicker so I can move on to other things or work. Lately, I have done about like that comic, having turkey bacon and sweet potato and some spice! A carb and a protein. Then I add some chickpeas or leftover baked beans.

Phoebe has become adventurous and finally stepping outside. She doesn't last very long, but she is getting better. I honestly want her to stay inside so that she is with us more! I have gotten attached lately.

Finally, National Strawberries and Cream Day! Thankful to the "$10 Box Store," I got to stock up on a lot of different flavors of these.

Today's Bible study time:
Hebrews 13:5-6 was pretty fitting. But God always does that. I have also come to a place in my faith where I can make any passage relate to my life. I know the Bible is full of things we can use in the present day. I have come to admit that I am a hoarder, and I have issues with money! I like it, I love to shop, but I never want to spend money, and when I buy things, I never want to use them. But that is no good! I have no reason to worry about these things, because God will always give me everything I need. Getting a job has also been so good for me in that I can make my own money to pay for things and to save for later. Now I fear what I will do without one. I want to buy things for myself and for others, and I need to do so for the right reasons. Not be superfluous but be good to myself. Use the good things I buy, and take care of myself. Share and take care of others. But "Keep yourselves free from the love of money and be content with what you have, for God has said, 'Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.' So we say with confidence, 'The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?"
So while my life may be sliding around like my socks, God's got me.

These Verses Got Me Through The Toughest Times of Life

Instagram
Strava

Mid-life crisis should not be confined to mid-life, as we all seem to have some kind of crisis at various points in our lives. Whether it seems big or small is no matter, comparison is a killer. If it bothers you, it bothers you, and no one else can impact how something affects you. Hiding your problems for fear of judgment or being viewed as self-centered, weak, or arrogant because your problems aren't "that bad" can lead you to getting in a deeper hole than the one you started with. Trust me; I know. This world can be full of so many burdens, it may seem at times that we are stuck in that hole with no way out in sight, but it is there where faith and strength grow the most. Through the most recent trial in my life, there were some verses that I went back to every day pushing me through and keeping me from losing hope, so I wanted to share them for anyone else who may be in a wreck on the interstate of life (because it goes by so fast, and who uses speed limits anyways?--jk I am a good driver) or to anyone to keep them for a rainy day (as we have a lot of those lately, literally and figuratively..).

Looking back I can confidently say that I see where God was at work and came through every time.

Hebrews is full of faith-strengthening verses for when my soul is struggling.
"We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, in order to make your hope sure...through faith and patience inherit what is promised." Hebrews 6:11

"Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful." Hebrews 10:23

"So do not throw away your confidence, for it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what He has promised." Hebrews 10:35-36
"Without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe He exists and rewards those who earnestly seek Him." Hebrews 11:6

Psalms are some of the most encouraging passages in the Bible, coming from both triumph and trouble, as well as finding joy in the valleys. Sometimes when I don't know what else to do, I just open up to a random Psalm and start there.

"I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong, and take heart, and wait for the Lord." Psalm 27:13-14

"For His anger lasts only a moment, but His favor lasts a lifetime. Weeping may remain for a night, but rejoicing comes in the morning." Psalm 30:5

"Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones You have crushed rejoice...restore to me the joy of Your salvation and grant me a willing spirit to sustain me." Psalm 51:8, 12

"In my anguish, I called to the Lord, and He answered by setting me free." Psalm 118:5
Psalm 25 is a prayer from David, but I used it as a prayer from myself. When at a loss of words ourselves, who better to connect with God than David?
"To You, O Lord, I lift up my soul; in You I trust, O my God. Do not let me be put to shame nor let my enemies triumph over me. No one whose hope is in You will ever be put to shame...Show me Your ways and teach me Your paths; guide me in Your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in You all the day long. Remember, O Lord, Your great mercy and love, remember not the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways...Good and upright is the Lord, therefore He instructs sinners in His ways. He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them His way. All the ways of the Lord are loving and faithful. For the sake of Your name, forgive my iniquity, though it is great...Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted. The troubles of my heart have multiplied; free me from my anguish. Look upon my affliction and my distress...Guard my life and rescue me...my hope is in You." (verses 1-11, 16-21)

Another prayer from David is in Psalm 31.
"In You, O Lord, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame. Turn Your ear to me, come quickly to my rescue; be my rock of refuge, a strong fortress to save me...Free me from the trap that is set before me, for you are my refuge. Into Your hands I commit my spirit...I trust in the Lord. I will be glad and rejoice in Your love, for you saw the anguish of my soul...Be merciful to me, O Lord, for I am in distress; my eyes grow weak with sorrow, my soul and body with grief. My strength fails because of my affliction, and my bones grow weak...But I trust in You, O Lord; I say, 'You are my God. My times are in Your hands'...Let Your face shine on Your servant; save me in Your unfailing love...How great is Your goodness...Praise be to the Lord for He showed His wonderful love to me...Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord." (verses 1-2, 4-5, 7, 9-10, 14-16, 19, 21, 24)

"But if it's true that You use broken things, then here I am, Lord, I'm all Yours." -Broken Things by Matthew West

There is no shame in human weakness. God wouldn't use us if we were perfect. He uses hard times to make us stronger and bring us out to have a story to tell to help others.

"Run with Perseverance the Race Marked Out for You"

Instagram

If there was one thing I could say about what I've learned so far this year, it is to keep going through whatever circumstances may come.  Find joy in the journey!  If you let life keep you down and miserable, you're letting Satan win and you're only hurting yourself.  Whatever race God has marked out for you can be exciting if you only choose to see it that way.  Embrace the challenges.  That's how I am trying to look at it.  I'm always up for a challenge, and life never fails to throw them at you!  By keeping your eyes peeled for anything that can be used for God's glory, you will never get bored.

Here's some of my motivation from indoor and outdoor track season.
Success or failure in our eyes will always be success if it's used the way God intends.
This is one of my favorites, not only because it was one of the best races of my life, but I was filled with such joy from Christ!  No pain in the run, and I only felt like I could keep going faster and faster!  I knew I couldn't run fast on my own, but God wanted me to have the opportunity.  Joy comes with surrender"God...rewards those who earnestly seek Him."  Hebrews 11:6
Photo credits to Mom on this one.  This was during one of my spur-of-the-moment afternoon runs during those crazy snow days!  I had been saving up my neon outfit for a special snow day, and this was it.
Our weather is one thing that I say God uses to show us that we are not in control and we "do not even know what will happen tomorrow."  James 4:14
The beautiful scenery also left me in awe of all He does.  We don't understand the things that happen in this world, but that is so we see that He is all-powerful.  Reading these verses just makes me "stop and consider His wonders."  Job 37:14  I just can't put words to it; I love it.

Hebrews 12:1-2 is our verse for the cross country team, but I also used it myself this track season to help me get my head right.  There were so many distractions filling my mind and keeping me from being who God wanted me to be.  My focus ended up being less on winning races and more on winning peace of mind.  My goal was to get rid of the worries that were holding me back (yes, mentally, but that leads to physical barriers, too), and keep on keeping on.  It's not easy to be joyful when things are so tough and painful, but we have to go through those things to make us better.  Satan will use these times to break us, but God intends to use them to make us.  (Genesis 50:20)  Changing the focus from my own problems to God's plan is the best way to be able to enjoy every moment, even when it's not something very enjoyable.
I didn't get to see all of them, but Walmart had an entire section of shirts like this that were scripturally based!  Mom sent me these pictures while she was there shopping.  I would have bought so many, but my drawers already "runneth over."

Another seriously matching running outfit
This quote came from one of my college leaders at Motown Madness this year.  We aren't perfect and never will be.  Not even close to good enough!  That's not the point.  Christ died for us and all of our nasty sins and still loves us more than anything we could imagine.  He wants us all to be a part of His family and ministry.  He doesn't call us when we are good enough or ready enough, because there is no such thing.  He gives us what we need in the life that we are in.
All of us are just petty sinners, given grace from God.
I found an awesome instagram and twitter account called Daily Bible Verses that posts all kinds of pictures and scripture.  I spent hours looking through them!  These were two of my favorites that I kept in the front of my mind during track season.

This ring means a lot more to me than just being on the back to back state championship team.  This season was a lot tougher than last year.  I've grown much more in my faith.  This verse speaks to my heart much more than it did before.  (We also had to pay for this ring, because we decided to get it in real gold!)  I also associate it with myselft being the indoor 2 mile individual state champion.  I wear this ring a lot, not to show off that I'm a state champion, but to remind myself of what I'm here for. I am a champion, but not just physically.  God has blessed me with these abilities and opportunities to use them for His glory every moment.  I have to throw off all the distractions and focus on the daily race that He has laid out for me.  You can't see the engraved verse while I'm wearing the ring, but I know it's there.  Wearing the ring reminds me of all these great things and the true victory that I am called to proclaim.  That's something I can brag on without having to worry that I can't live up to those standards again!  I may never win another race, but that's not important.  Bragging about that stuff just leads to destruction (Proverbs 16:8), but bragging on God is something to be proud of because I never have to fear that He won't win.  God will never lose.
Social media can be used for amazing purposes!  I myself find so much encouragement when I surf the socials.  I was blown away one day as I saw all three of these right in a row, relating to just what I had been thinking on lately.
1)  God has blessed me, but I must be faithful, using those gifts totally unselfishly, for His purposes, not my own.
2)  Attitude impacts everything!  I have tried to stop worrying about the things that are out of my control, because they're in God's control.  I have to go with it, and stop rebelling and forcing my own ways.
3)  Fear of any kind is a major road block to our faith.  Trust me, I know.  We have to stop being afraid and just trust and act on what God leads us to!  He has told us to have no fear.
"...God is love...There i no fear in love.  But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment.  the one who fears is not made perfect in love."  1 John 4:16, 18
We fear when we rely on ourselves.  When we focus on obeying God, there is no reason to fear.

What is your race that God has called you to run with perseverance?

Focusing on Faith

Following the events that were from my Rejuvinated and Rejoicing post, there were more ups and downs, but God was always speaking through the situations.  I write these things down, so that I can have them to remember His works and all the things I'm learning along the way.  It's great to look back and be able to see His faithfulness.

The next race was a Saturday meet, but it was different because I only went for one race, the 3200.  the first 6 laps were a tight race with the top 3, but I fell behind a bit in the last 2 and finished 4th.  I literally fell across the finish line from sprinting as hard as my legs could go at that point.  The temperature was a bit too cool for me to go faster than I could push that day, as I knew my teammate--who I must say has an amazing kick--was coming hot on my tail!  This was painful for us, but I'm thankful that I have such fast teammates; we all push each other to get better!  I was pretty devastated and disappointed in myself.  It was a rough evening, if you can imagine.

Although bad times are, well, bad, they often bring about good things if you just take the chance to look for it.  Struggles often make us stop and think about the things we need to change in learning from our mistakes! This was the start of spring break, and my best friend and I joked the week before (yet meant it seriuosly):  "I'm gonna get my life together this week!"

Sunday mornings always give me tons of things to dwell on; Pastor Dean's sermon, the songs we sing, our small group lessons and talks, then the little things God just sends straight to my heart.
My favorite verse from that morning was "Not as I will, but as You will."  Luke 22:42  As Jesus prayed honestly to His Father, He expressed that the situation was not pleasant, asking to take it from Him if at all possible, yet he was still totally committed to whatever it takes.  This is also how we should pray.  Honestly pouring our hearts out to God our Father who cares and wants to hear, but also totally willing to accept the answer even if it is painful to deal with.

It's crazy how God sends us signs of what to do sometimes!  Patty always makes up hypothetical situations along with our lessons so that we can really apply what we're learning, and this day, she said one that had just happened to me the day before at the race!  My mouth just fell open.  Then we really could apply some things to our personal lives!

This was the day that I chose a verse to get me motivated and going again!  The cross country team has always used Hebrews 12:1-2 as a "theme" verse for the team, but this track season, it has come to mean a lot more to me personally.  It's hard to do anything the best we can when we aren't focused.  When we let our minds wander or get consumed with stress, confusion, anger, anxiety, dread, comparision to others, business, pain, disappointment, ourselves, or anything else, we inevitably spend less time with God.  Then things just spiral from there.  It can really make you weary when this life gets a hold of you.  It's not hard to get distracted.  That's why it says "so easily entagles."  I made a point to myself that my goal was to throw off all this junk that fills my mind and holds me back from being all that I can be for the Lord and fully focus on delighting in the Lord!  No matter what may come, it's just stuff.  God is the focus.  Keep going with eyes on Jesus!

I was also super thankful to my friend and cousin, Julia, who sent me a link to a perfect song for these feelings!  Through All of It by Colton Dixon

Mind Over Matter

What a day.
One thing I like about track better than cross country is that the races are usually not until the afternoon. I CAN SLEEP IN. In cross country season, Saturday race days are the earliest I get up. We usually travel all day Friday, too, but with track, it's a bit more relaxed. It was a kinda rough sleep to start with, but after finally getting myself woken up, I just had a different kind of feeling about the day.
On the car ride up there, I did some Bible study with the stuff I've been looking at lately, and stuff just kept coming. One verse that I have been making my focus the past few weeks is Hebrews 12:1-2, "...let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles and run with perseverance the race marked out for us, keeping our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfector of our faith..."  not only because it makes sense with running, but every part of life.  This world is full of distractions, but Christ is what we should fix our thoughts on.  That's how life is found.  I also shared a picture that I had found earlier in the week that made me think of one of the girls I look up to in our student ministry at FBC, Kristen Curetin.  A few years ago, when we first got to really know each other, we were having a blast in Gatlinburg at the Abide girls' retreat, which was actually happening again this same weekend, so this picture had multiple meanings, as I shared on my Facebook and Instagram.  She reminds me to "keep my spiritual glasses on!" as I go through each day.
There was another verse that I had noted in my phone notepad to go back and look at, but I didn't remember what it was, so I decided to go find out.  There was no doubt that God led me to this verse at this time!  2 Timothy 1:7, "For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love, and of self-discipline."  It was indescribable how hard this hit me at this moment!  Exactly what I needed.  When I went back onto the track after two weeks since my last race, I couldn't be fearful of what may or may not happen, best or worst case scenario; God gives me power!  Fear, I have to remind myself, is a lack of faith.  God is love, and love drives out fear (1 John 4:8).  No matter the outcome of a single race, which is over and done with in a matter of minutes, the way I handle my actions means so much more.  I have to have that love and discipline every step I take, because, like the 1st part of Hebrews 12:1 says, "..we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses.."  I am called to "live a life of love ,(Ephesians 5:2)" as love is "the most excellent way" to bring people to Christ (1 Corinthians 12:31)
Man, was I fired up and ready to go!
These verses were what I was using for guidance as I went out into the world this day, and still now.
We got to Tennessee High in Bristol for the Frank Carver Invitational as the rolling schedule was about to start. There was some wind, but the sun was out! (And by the end of the day, people's tan lines were great proof). My first event was one that I had been struggling with this season, the 1600. My times have gotten a but better each race, but just not what I have done before. Turns out, this race didn't feel good either. Awful actually. I was really frustrated with all this that I don't understand, but again I have to remember that there are some things in life that we aren't supposed to understand. God knows and that's what matters. In my long break, I got to talk to some people and got some great encouragement, including a coach from another team that I've gotten to know over the past couple years.  He was confident in what I could do, just that it looked like I was trying harder than I usually do.  Maybe I need to just let go and let it happen.  I knew that was it.  I run so much better when I just do it for the fun of it!  I knew that God didn't give me that feeling about today for nothing, but still walking up to that line, I wasn't feeling fresh in my legs.
A great song came to my mind:  Strong Enough by Matthew West.  Going back later and searching these lyrics was awesome to me, because it was yet another thing God sent me that sums up the past few weeks.
Runners take your mark--BANG
Sometimes that's all it takes.
When I take off from that line, and God takes over.
I just need to let my mind go! Stress is a sickness that can ruin more than your health. It's your attitude and motivation for life too. It's how the devil diverts your attention away from the plans God has for you. Once I got in this race, I just let it all go and ran my race, not worrying about anything else. Throwing off all these worldly things that hinder me, and running with perseverance the race that I am in, I turned my focus to Jesus instead of everything else.  And ya know what?  I felt totally different.  Where your mind is focused plays an incredible role in our every circumstance.  If you're not right with God, how could anything else ever possibly turn out right?  He is in control!  When we try to change what's already set in stone becuase it is what we want, anxiety sets in because that can never happen.  We can't control everything.
No, it still wasn't my fastest race, but it was just what I needed.  As I ran each step, I felt better and faster, and a peace came over me that I know only the Lord gives.
With about 2 laps to go, I felt even lighter on my feet and in my mind, and a verse came to me that I had looked at and created a wallpaper picture for earlier in the week.
At this time, the verse had a different meaning to it, as I felt it literally, physically and spiritually!  I trusted that God was in charge of my body and would give it strength to do whatever He had planned, and I felt renewed, soaring, all the way to the finish.
Coach Murrell, who I had talked to earlier, was on the back stretch, the quiet side of the track, giving me great encouragement.  Relax...flow...looking great...
As I counted down the last few hundreds as I passed each mark, my heart continued to rejoice!  Rounding the 200-to-go curve, Coach Murrell said something about being an artist and this is how I express myself--yes--this is what God gave me and running freely is how I use it to express my thanks and give back to Him.
Upon finishing, it felt like a weight had been lifted.
Mom also took some pictures and videos during the race, and it was obvious, to me and others watching, that the 3200 was like a totally different person out there racing than who was in the 1600.
Satan is always out there looking for ways to trip us up (1 Peter 5:8-9), but we can't let that get us down.  His goal is to keep us from being who God intends for us to be, but as Mom and I have been saying lately, we can't give the devil that victory.  God wants us to have full and free life (John 10:10), and that is a feeling that I desire for everyone to get to experience.

The way things were all tying together didn't stop Saturday, though!
Pastor Dean's sermon Sunday morning was on point, too!  He continued his "Amazing Love, How Can it Be?" series, with message #3:  "In All I Do I Honor You" based on Romans 12.  I laughed in my head as I am continually amazed at how often God speaks if we are just willing to listen.  Pastor Dean also used a passage that I have been reading lately, from Philippians 3:20-21 about being patient with life here on earth, because we are awaiting a permanent meeting with our Savior, "...who, by the power that enables Him to bring everything under His control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body."
The message went on to outline the Romans passage, as we are to give the best of our lives for Him because He gave His entire life for us.  Again, we can't get caught up in the world, but "be transformed by the renewing of your mind (Romans 12:2)"
Yet another instance of "Mind over Matter"
God is constantly pouring out His grace and mercy more than we can even imagine...just look for it!  It will change your whole outlook on life.

Friday Fix

I have not had much time to blog at all lately, but I am currently in the back if a car, in the dark, which makes it difficult to study, so my phone' battery is getting drained! Even though I haven't been posting on my blog, I've still been posting a lot to my other social medias. Each day, I've had a little slogan to share with others and help me stay focused on god more each day. Today has been a busy, stressful day, but the way to get through it is by fixing eyes and thoughts on Jesus!  God just sent all this to my mind when I really didn't know what to post for today yet, so I really wanted to go ahead and share it now!

Snow Day!

Like I said last night, getting a text message that we were out of school absolutely thrilled me.  I'm usually the kind of girl who is looking forward to school, working hard and learning.  Not this time.  Although I tried so hard over the weekend, I couldn't help but dread it.  I've never been like that!  Fortunately, God helped us out and sent some "heavenly dandruff," as my Honors English II teacher from last semester liked to call it.  I am very thankful to have an extra day to relax and get things done here at home.
After sleeping in and getting a morning workout done, I dug into some of the Toffee Figgy Muffins I made yesterday.  They are a success!  So yummy, healthy, and moist!  Everything you want in a muffin, right?

No way!! I just received another message already cancelling school tomorrow, too!  This is great!  Even though it is not supposed to snow much more, the temperatures are the coldest we've had all year (and maybe last year, too).  Wind chills are also sub zero.
This was the noon-time weather on my iPhone.
We're walkin in a winter wonderland....
This is off my back porch.
This is down my street in one direction from the front porch.
And the other way!  I never get my hopes up for snow anymore, because our weather people don't always accurately (or even relatively close sometimes) predict the weather.  I woke up to go to the bathroom around 5:00 this morning, and decided to walk to the kitchen to get an ice pack to cool me down, and looked out the window to a very pleasant surprise!

Time to get to work around here!

*********

Okay, I'm back.  Yeah, that seemed fast to you because I just saved this page and came back to it around 7 hours later.

This is a project that I had been wanting to do all winter, but couldn't find a cold stretch to make it last until today!  I started it last night so it would be good and frozen by today.  I used to do this when I was really little.  The idea came from either a magazine or show I used to watch that had examples with a couple drawings like this, but most of it was a bird feeder.  They froze bird feed and hung it up so the birdees wouldn't starve in the cold weather!
Last night when I chose this verse, I began to like it even more when I realized how ironic it was.  God "is a consuming fire," and I was freezing the verse and hanging it outside in the single digits.

All you do to make these simple decorations or deck ornaments, as I said in this case, is tear off some clear saran wrap, like what you use to cover food.  Decorate it, freeze it in a plate, bowl, or any container, stick a wire, string, or anything to use as a hanger into the water, and there you have it!  Everything freezes together, then you can bend the sides of the container when it thaws a little, and take it out and hang it up!
The verse on this one got frozen a little deep in the water, but it is Ecclesiastes 11:9.

Isn't he just precious?
Frisco is inside now; Dad bought a kennel to put him in in the basement to save him from the cold.
Dogs can photobomb, too!
I just love the innocence of a sweet pet.

Now it's almost time for that BCS National Championship game!

We are Never Alone

During different holiday seasons, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas, I love to look at the comics.  During these times, there seems to be more funny, cute, and meaningful ones.  This morning, I really liked the simple and true fact behind today's Mutts.
We really are never alone.  We would not even have this holiday to celebrate if God never sent us His son to live and die for us.  Ya know, we wouldn't even be celebrating "mas" because nothing even would have started a holiday.  Even when we feel completely deserted by family, friends, teachers, coworkers, and more, God is always there.  He promises us that many times in His word.  This verse in Hebrews says it plain and simple:  "...God has said, 'Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you.'"  (Hebrews 13:5)
Never forget that, not only during Christmas, but every moment of every day.

Footlocker South Region 2013

This is the second year that I have gone to this race, the Footlocker South Region.  It is not a school affiliated race, but it is a post-season qualifier for a national race held in San Diego.  We left Friday morning around 10:00 to head to Charlotte, North Carolina.  After going to Subway for lunch, checking in at race registration and the Hilton hotel we would be staying at the next two nights, we headed to meet some other people from Morristown to jog the course.  McAlpine Park is the location of the South Region.  It is a gorgeous park with trails, sports places, a dog park, and ponds.

Last year I found the perfect place for dinner, Nothing but Noodles!  After running, this is where we went.  This pasta is whole wheat penne topped with marinara sauce, grilled chicken, spinach, carrots, broccoli, red bell peppers, zuccini squash, and whatever cheese they use.  It was absolutely delicious!

I went on Tennessee Runner and saved some pictures of myself from the race, becuase I haven't yet looked at the ones my mom or a friend's mom took.  This was in the time we had in the "runners only start area" in the half hour between our start and the race before us.  A chilly 30 degrees kept us in our warm up clothes as long as we could.  The first 1k was also straight into a headwind!  This was such an amazing experience!
Not everyone in the seeded/championship girls race fit in this picture, but here we are about to take off.  I was excited to get to start next to two girls that I have raced against since middle school.  They are twins, juniors from Beech High School.  Cross country races are also the perfect chance to meet new people and gain encouragement!
Here's a shot from along this beautiful course.
Here I am next to one of my big competitors for the past two years.  (She is in the tshirt and shorts and under armor headband.)  I didn't race her too often, but every time we met, it was always close!  I pulled this one out ahead from the big hill not too far past this point.

This race was super fast!  I even got a new PR, the goal of what I had been wanting for this race all season.  My new PR of 18:14 was 14 seconds faster than I had previously run.  Next year my goal is to break 18:00!

Last year we ate at the Cheesecake Factory after leaving McAlpine.  My boy/bestfriend and his dad came with us, too.  My foursquare wouldn't get rid of the borders.  Here is some white bean hummus with wheat toast!
Here is some white chicken chili!  It was very yummy, although it doesn't compare to my "second momma's" (2 of my best friends' mom) white chicken chili.
And of course, the main event--the pumpkin cheesecake!  I put this thing away fast!
This is the shirt everyone received at registration!

On the way to the race, I opened up my Bible to where we have been studying at church, Hebrews 12.  Although verses 1 and 2 are our school team verses, it never really hit me the same as it did that morning.  I know I need to get my life better prioritized.  "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.  Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfector of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God."  So many people see me every day in so many ways, but I have so much going through my head and so much to do.  I need to let go of the things that don't really matter and focus on bringing God glory.  He paid it all, so I should focus on living for Him.

I learned a lot this weekend.
Just because you miss some workouts and some feel awful, that does not mean you won't perform better than you ever have.
God placed me in Charlotte that weekend to run, not to be more concerned with what I am doing/eating afterwards.  (I say this because I came down with the stomach virus just hours after the race.  I was so excited about the Cheesecake Factory, the Southpark Mall shopping, and free continental breakfast I got from having to sleep on a pull out couch bed, that until I got to the race, I was not focused.  God has provided me with so many opportuinities I must not take improper advantage of.)
God gives me so much grace I don't deserve at all.  He really should've gotten me sick 24 hours before, so that I would've been unable to run at all, already all the way in Charlotte, so then I would've felt even more awful for wasting so much of my family's money and time.
There is so much to be joyful about :)
